In this article, we are going to discuss the difference between network engineers and software engineers.

Software engineering and network engineering are two different fields. As we all know, software engineering is a renowned field in IT.

Certifications :

Certification is a must to become a network engineer. On the other hand, certifications are not that much important to star carriers in the software industry.

Work culture :

Work culture is very different in both fields. In-network field you have to work 24/7 on a shift basis. Because network engineers work in client-based data centers. But as a software engineer, you are not required to work based on rotational shifts. You only have to work 8 to 9 hours in a general shift.

Salary :

Salary is low for entry-level network engineers as compared to software engineers. Software engineers can get a higher salary as compared to network engineers.

Growth :

If you think about growth, then both fields have great demand and you can grow in both fields. Project duration is very long in-network as compared to software. Network projects can be of 2 to 3 years. The duration of software projects is very less and can be completed within a couple of months.

Degree :

If you want to go into the network field then you need a bachelor’s degree and if you want to go into the software field then you also need a bachelor’s degree. You need a bachelor’s degree in any technical field to become a network or software engineer.

Job Security :

Job security is high in the network field because network projects take more time to complete. On the other hand, the software industry is ever changing and software projects take less time to complete. Getting jobs in the software industry is easy but getting a job in the network industry is a little bit hard. To get a job in the network industry you need certificates from different vendors. But you can get a software engineer job only with a college degree.
